Our Story
In 1982, Founder Elena Kubler called her gallery The Turtle because she hoped to create space which would endure and be supportive to many. The Gallery has offered accomplished artists a way to show their work and connect with a vibrant community of creators and art appreciators.
Help us carry through on a 44-year-old original promise to support and promote a mix of artwork in many media by local, regional, and international artists and crafts people.
Turtle Gallery proudly supports students in Deer Isle High School by donating to PROJECT LAUNCH which helps out young graduates make the transition to secondary learning opportunities.
Forty-Four Summers of Art
In the 1990's, Kubler moved the gallery to the 1876 Centennial House property, formerly owned by Grancis and Priscilla Merritt--the Founding Directors of The Haystack School. That move was key to giving The Turtle Gallery stability on the historic Centennial House property.
Our 44th year also marks a point where founder Elena Kubler will begin to reconnect with her own path as an artist.
Elena and daughter, Caitlin Johnston, are co-owners of the Turtle Gallery. Lesley Sager and Caitlin Johnston are co-managers.

We invite you to wander through our 1876 two-story barn and find a moment of peace in our outdoor sculpture garden. Whether you are a longtime friend or a first-time visitor, we can't wait to share this season with you.
